The Misconceptions of Library Workers

Wow, it's been a while. I've been so busy lately that I totally forgot about all my photos! I'll have to continue sometime soon hopefully.

Firstly, the news about the library course is really sad. I understand how difficult it is in a world which is constantly based on money money money. I feel our course is very much worth it - I think the library industry is oh so very underrated. I guess we will all have to hope they can sort something out for all of us.

Recently I've taken on more hours at the library (I work about 3 days a week plus relief work) And I'm loving it of course. But the most interesting thing I find is the different reactions I receive from library members. As I now work different days I encounter the customers who are regulars and when the see such a young face working behind the desk their response is either positive or slightly negative. Most people will look at me and express their concern as they think I'm too young to be working in a library (my fellow staff members are taking offence I think =) ). Another frequent comment I receive from people is the ever-amusing "I suppose it's pretty easy reading books all day". Everyone that works in a library (especially public) will back me up on the fact that you usually have no time at all to read a book. Noone seems to believe this, though.

Looking forward to this weekend's unit as my library is looking for me to provide some input into events for youth in our library.

Amelia,
I love that there is a young face in the library.
If I ever get to work in one every one will expect me to know every thing because they will think that I have been working at it for years!
I am glad you have found what you love to do so early in you life.
